Am I entangled with an ancestor in my family system?
Understanding inherited family trauma through Family Constellations
Family Constellations, developed by Bert Hellinger, is a therapeutic approach that investigates the intricate dynamics within families to address unresolved issues and systemic patterns. Hellinger, a German psychotherapist, developed this approach based on his observations that hidden loyalties, unresolved conflicts, and unspoken family secrets often reverberate through generations, affecting the present-day lives of individuals. At the core of Family Constellations is the idea that family systems operate under hidden laws and loyalties, often stemming from unspoken traumas or secrets within the lineage.
The practice involves a group or individual representing family members, and through a facilitated process, participants gain insights into the underlying systemic patterns influencing their lives. Family Constellations highlight how individuals can become unwittingly entangled with their ancestors and reactions or beliefs that are counter-productive to the client may be in response to imbalances in their family system. By bringing these entanglements to light, Family Constellations seeks to heal systemic wounds and restore balance to familial relationships. This approach combines elements of psychology, systemic thinking, and the body’s innate wisdom. It is an experiential method that encourages participants to acknowledge, understand, and release inherited burdens, fostering a transformative journey towards personal and familial harmony. Through confronting the entanglements of the past, individuals may find liberation and a path to a more fulfilling and authentic present.
Family Constellations are provided for individual sessions, or as part of group workshops. Contact us to find out more.
